And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping and he said to Peter, "So, could you not watch with me one hour?" -Matthew 26:40
What is Adoration?
In the most basic terms, it is the worship of the Eucharist outside of the Mass. The Eucharistic Host is displayed in a monstrance on the altar so that all can see and pray in the presence of Christ.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that, "Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the "King of Glory," respectful silence in the presence of the "ever greater" God. Adoration of the thrice-holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications." (CCC 2628)
The real and living presence of Jesus is directly available to us in our Adoration chapel. The monstrance on the altar cradles a consecrated host-it holds for us the Blessed Sacrament, for our benefit.
Adoration is the greatest devotion we can have to Our Lord, second only to worshipping Him in the most holy sacrifice of the Mass. Adoration itself is an extension of the Mass.
Having access to Jesus in Adoration is an incredible privilege. It is our individual and collective duty to worship, guard, accompany and adore Him, as He sits before us in His exposed and vulnerable state.
Commit to one hour a week; we need YOU to commit to a scheduled, weekly hour with Jesus.
OR no need to sign-up or ask permission to attend, you can just show up and be with the Lord.
We can show our adoration to God in many ways, but in Eucharistic Adoration, we spend time adoring the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
You might ask...."How do I do Adoration?"
Simply come! Entrance to the chapel is around back of the church and during the day hours, also through the main body of the church behind the sacristry. If the door is locked and during adoration hours, knock on the door and an adorer will let you in.
Upon entering/exiting the chapel pew, those physically able are asked to momentarily genuflect on both knees before Jesus’ real presence in the exposed Blessed Sacrament.
The chapel is a place of peace, rest and quiet worship. Please turn your cell phone ringer, messaging and sound effects off. Keep conversations and distractions to a minimum (or take outside the chapel).
Always keep in mind that you are in the presence of God! Kneeling, sitting, standing, and even laying on the floor before the Blessed Sacrament are all appropriate forms of prayer. Let your posture reflect your worship of the King and do what is comfortable for you.
You really don’t have to “do” anything during Adoration. You can just sit there and look at Jesus. Take the time to be with Him. If you are the only person in the chapel, don’t be afraid to pray or sing aloud. This is your personal time with Christ.
